IMPORTANT NEWS & INFORMATION!
....................................................
....................................................
*Please feel free to contact me from 8:30am-4:00pm (Monday-Friday) at the school (613)599-6600! Mornings are best! If you would like for me to contact you, kindly write a note in your son's or daughter's agenda with a time that is good for you and I will give you a call!
Due to this new website, I will no longer be sending home the WWWs in the agenda. They will be given on a sheet of paper with the notebook (they have the tracing around them) but they will not be glued into the agenda anymore! I will write them on this website incase the sheet of paper gets lost!
WWW's for the week: very, won't, did, don't, good
Note to Parents: We have been discussing healthy eating choices so please try to pack healthy power snacks for your son or daughter. You could even ask them what they would like for a power snack!! (Examples: cut-up veggies or fruit, yogurt, cheese and crackers, hummus and crackers, etc. ...more water, less juice! We are trying to avoid a lot of added sugars!)
Please Remember:
WE ARE A NUT-FREE CLASS!
(that means no peanuts OR tree nuts!)

What Are We Up To?
- Language: We are working on descriptive writing using visualization (5 senses). The learning goal is to write 4-5 "smiley" sentences (below) using at least 1 adjective in each sentence. We are also working on "The Daily 5"!-They love it! Please practise writing complete sentences (smiley sentences) at home!
- Math: Measurement
- Science: SCIENCE RESEARCH PROJECT ABOUT ANIMALS IN THE WINTER!!
- The Arts: Music and Visual Art
- FYI About Visual Art: Students each have an art portfolio in class. I don't like sending single art pieces home because they tend to get destroyed. So a couple times throughout the year, I will send home the big art portfolio, you can take the art work out and return the portfolio back to class!
- Religion: Fully Alive -discussing how families are unique! Studying the Rosary!
- Physical Education: We have been doing a lot of yoga! The students are really enjoying it! (We now listen to relaxation music a lot!) It helps us stretch and also centres our body and mind to help us calm down and focused! We have been doing warm-up rotations (jumping jacks, hopping on one leg, etc.) and we are working on cooperative games and body movement. We are also working on basketball skills (throwing, passing, and dribbling!)
- Health: The students may have informed you....We are using a program called Power to Play (you can google it, it's amazing!) It incorporates super heroes and health missions, healthy eating choices, the four food groups, and daily physical activities. The students have created their own healthy Super Heroes! Here they are! We are currently talking about the 4 food groups and healthy snacks.
- Power to Play has been a hit! The focus right now is all about snacks and making good healthy choices.
Keep Working On It...
How full is your bucket? We are bucket fillers! Since the beginning of the school year, St. James has been working on filling buckets. Our class is now FULL of bucket fillers, NOT bucket dippers! Keep it up Grade Ones! Try to encourage your son or daughter to be bucket fillers at home too!
